Day #83

“ Take what you can use and let the rest go by. “

- So here it goes:

There was once a great actor who could no longer remember his lines.
After many years he finds a theatre where they are prepared to give him a chance to shine again.
The director says to the actor:
- "This is the most important part, and it has only one line. You walk on to the stage at the opening carrying a rose. You hold the rose to your nose with just one finger and thumb, sniff the rose deeply and then say the line - 'Ah, the sweet aroma of my mistress', OK? "

The actor is thrilled !...
All day long before the play, he's practicing his line over and over again.

Finally, the time comes.

The curtain goes up, the actor walks onto the stage, and with great passion delivers the line, "Ah, the sweet aroma of my mistress."

The theatre erupts !!

The audience is screaming with laughter, but the director is steaming!
- "You bloody fool!" he cries... - "You have ruined me !"

The actor is bewildered, "What happened, did I forget my line?"
- "No!" ... screams the director. "You forgot the rose ! "

Pearls of wisdom by Jonathan Swift

1. Don’t fear being wrong.
“A man should never be ashamed to own that he has been in the wrong, which is but saying… that he is wiser today than yesterday.”

2. Money is useful. Love of it is hazardous.
“A wise man should have money in his head, but not in his heart.”

.3. Dig where you stand.
“Although men are accused of not knowing their own weakness, yet perhaps few know their own strength. It is in men as in soils, where sometimes there is a vein of gold which the owner knows not of.”

4. Go further than you may think you can.
“I’ve always believed no matter how many shots I miss, I’m going to make the next one.”

5. Be good to yourself.
“The best doctors in the world are Doctor Diet, Doctor Quiet, and Doctor Merryman.”

.6. Put down the extra, unnecessary baggage you are carrying.
“The latter part of a wise person’s life is occupied with curing the follies, prejudices and false opinions they contracted earlier.”

7. Learn to create a connection.
“Good manners is the art of making those people easy with who we converse. Whoever makes the fewest people uneasy is the best bred in the room.”

8. Be open to the idea that you can always learn.
“No man was ever so completely skilled in the conduct of life, as not to receive new information from age and experience.”

- Um pessimista queixa-se do vento,
- Um optimista espera que o vento mude,
- O realista ajusta as velas...!

...!
